A tipster reports that Mary “One” Johnson’s realty company is among six firms whose Better Business Bureau membership was revoted last month. Johnson is the vice chairman of City’s Preservation Board and the star of numerous bus stop bench ads.
In a press release dated June 30, the BBB states “Mary One Johnson Home Team Realty, LLC was notified on numerous occasions between Jan. 19, 2006, and May 3, 2006, regarding a customer complaint. The firm did not respond to this complaint.”
Other firms getting the boot include: All Phase Construction, of St. Charles; Bob Wright Building Co., LLC, of Hannibal; Earthshine, Inc., of Ballwin; Furry Tails Grooming, Inc., of St. Louis; and Roofs Plus, of Hazelwood.

The real BS is that she was appointed to the Preservation Board.
But why did she not address the complaint? Doesn’t the “Home Team” want to make things right?

When dealing with the retail public, it is never a shame to get BBB letters. People will sometimes go there before even calling the vender for a chance to clear up the confusion. What the really shameful part of this story is that no one from “Home Team” bothered to respond to either the customer or BBB. That is a huge RED FLAG for anyone wanting to do business with them. The BBB does not expect the Business to cave in and refund the questioned money just because someone asked for it. They are very reasonable to deal with. They just want all sides of the story and will usually clear up any confusion. All a business has to do is state their side of the story and what they are willing or not willing to do. To ignore a problem is not good business.

What surprises me is that clients go to the BBB when complaining about REALTORs, rather than going to the Board of REALTORs, which can impose fines against the offending member, or the Missouri Real Estate Commission, which can withdraw the license of the offending professional. All the BBB can do is to not recommend doing business with offending practitioners.

Travis:
Do you think that many people know what the Board of Realtors is, and how to contact the board?
A lot of people know about the BBB.

Then let me assist here a bit.
The St. Louis Area Board of REALTORs’ website is http://www.stlrealtors.com/.
I’m not sure what the MREC’s website is, but I am sure you can find it at http://mo.gov.
