Rumors breed rumors. In the days since the local blogosphere has been discussing a possible challenge to Aldermanic Pres. Jim Shrewsbury from 6th Ward Ald. Lewis Reed, another rumor has been circulating about a second alderman who was considering entering the race.
Two separate sources told PUB DEF that 27th Ward Ald. Greg Carter wanted to be the African-American candidate to run for President of the Board. When Reed became the choice of some influential politicos, they say Carter became upset and soon cut a deal with Shrewsbury involving committee assignments and a possible chairmanship.
Carter told PUB DEF tonight that those rumors are ridiculous.
“I haven’t done anything with Shrewsbury,” said Carter. He said that it wouldn’t even be possible for him to run for any other office at this time because of the demands of his full-time job and the risk to his retirement benefits. “I’ve got 23 years here. If I do anything, it’ll be after my 25th year.”
Carter said his ward organization, which includes committeewoman and State Rep. Connie Johnson and committeeman Curtis Royston, decides as a group which candidates they are going to support.
“We don’t do it like other communities do it,” he said. “We invite all the candidates and ask them questions. Then we decide who to support.” He said the President’s race will be no different.
Any good rumor has some truth to it and Carter admits that he does have his eyes on a higher position.
“I’ve got something in mind, but not for at least another three years,” he said cryptically.

To set the record straight on chairmanship. Ald. Carter is already a Chairman of the Health committe. So it goes to show you how uninformed those sources are.

I think what they were suggesting is Carter asked for to be chair of a more powerful and influential committee.

Antonio:
What other seats are coming up in 3 years?
5th Senatorial: 2008
Mayoral: 2008
Comptroller: 2008
Treasurer’s Office: 2008
What office is open in 3 years?
Alderman Carter is not an attorney; nor does he have a law degree so that excludes him from the office of Circuit Attorney. With the exception of the 5th Senatorial District—there are 13 city-wide elected offices; however, the aforementioned represent the most high-powered as it relates to African Americans.

This is my guess: The white establishment will NEVER let Lewis Reed get elected to the Board of Alderman presidency and assist Darlene Green in stumping Francis “The Bald” Slay.
If he does run you can expect another black to get in the race to protect Shrewsbury, because unlike how Charlie Dooley helped handle the Barbara Fraser - Jake Zimmerman issue, The Bald is too hateful to black people for them to trust him to have their best interests at heart and Lacy Clay is too incompetent to make a deal. Just look at how he blundered his 4th Senatorial District seat.
His contribution to St. Louis? Have the 4th District seat handed to you on a platter, a historical seat, and then give it away to - well you all know who.

YEEEAAAAHH! Now that’s what I’m talking about. Someone who will tell it like it T-I-S!
You made me reminiscence on how Lazy Clay–oh, uh, pardon me I meant Lacy Clay ascertained the 4th Senatorial District seat in the first place.
It was handed to him on a silver platter after then Senator John Bass vacated the seat. Then several years ago Lacy coalesced with other no-gooders and gave the seat to Doughtery over Shelton.
