A few weeks ago, Susan Montee, the Democratic candidate for State Auditor, sat down with PUB DEF to talk about her “exciting” race to succeed Claire McCaskill.

Montee, who is a CPA and currently the auditor for Buchanan County, said the office of State Auditor is important because it serves as a watchdog for state government.

She said if Republican Gov. Matt Blunt gets an auditor of his same party we will see is a lot of “happy news coming out over the next two years from the Auditor’s office telling us about how great the Blunt administration’s policies have been.”

Tomorrow we are scheduled to interview the Republican candidate for State Auditor, Sandra Thomas, who is also a CPA and currently auditor for Platte County.

Montee’s only telling half the story.

“if Republican Gov. Matt Blunt gets an auditor of his same party we will see is a lot of ‘happy news coming out over the next two years from the Auditor’s office telling us about how great the Blunt administration’s policies have been.’”

But it’s a four-year term, and all I hear says that in two years, Blunt will be bounced by Democrat Jay Nixon. If Democrat Nixon gets an auditor of his same party all we will see is a lot of “happy news coming out over the [following] two years from the Auditor’s office telling us about how great the Nixon administration’s policies have been.”

That’s why the State Auditor shouldn’t be either Republican or Democrat. The best choice is Terry Bunker of the Progressive Party, a professional accountant who is truly independent of Republicans (including Blunt) and Democrats (including Nixon).

That’s a very good point, Oracle. I should’ve asked her about that. Next time.

Missouri does have a pretty powerful auditor.

But do yall realize that most states elect their governors in Midterm Elections, including some of the largest (California, Texas, Florida, new York, illinois, pennslyvania, ohio, michigan).

St. Louis oracle: Now,it looks like Jay Nixon will be the next Governor of missouri, but remember that things can really change in two years!

Could yall imagine if Talent loses, a 5 way Republican Primary in 2008

    Incumbent Matt Blunt
    Treasurer Sarah Steelman
    Frm. Senator Jim Talent
    Congressman Kenny Hulshof
    Lt. Governor Peter Kinder

    hey its possible.

Question: I know what the Auditor does, but what does the treasurer do?? And would it be possible to combine those two offices into a Chief Finacial Officer position, like Florida
