Clay on Iraq Report: I Told You So

Thu, Dec 7, 2006

Congressman Lacy Clay has issued the following statement in response the report released yesterday by the Iraq Study Group:

“The report issued by the bipartisan Iraq Study Group vindicates what I have been saying for more than three years…we are not winning, the policy is not working, and we need to change direction without delay.

I am hopeful that the President will fully embrace the findings of the commission. We are ready to work with him to find a way to end this tragic war and to once again unify our nation in order to go forward with the unfinished work of the American people.

Ten more brave Americans were killed today in Iraq. We owe it to them, and to the other 23,000 Americans who have been killed or wounded, to forge a bipartisan solution that honors their sacrifice and brings them home as soon as possible.”

Clay has opposed the war from the beginning. I remember writing to thank him for opposing the initial resolution. I’m sure that, like me, he’s not thrilled to have been proven right. This misadventure has cost thousands of lives. Clay was right. Bush was wrong.

Clay is thrilled to be proven right. He doesn’t care about those men and women in Iraq. He is a Democrat and it means more to him to see the Republicans lose and Bush to look like a fool then it does to do what is right. Bush has really messed this war up. He has failed in his leadership. Our soldiers are not failures and I am sick of my fellow Democrats taking out their frustrations on Bush over this war at the expense of our soldiers.Didn’t we learn anything from Vietnam? We stick together as a country until our soldiers come home safe! Bush was wrong but Clay and the leaders of our party are an embarassement right now with how proud they are to be right.
