I for one am sick of Slay pimping our landmarks to his rich friends. Does anyone remember the Century Building?
People need to realize that if he got those home rule charter changes he wanted a few years ago that park would already be Barnes! Thank goodness for Jim Shrewsbury and Darlene Green’s good sense. God help us if he and his fellow Republican Blunt get their hands on our public schools.

Didn’t E and A vote for some of the Century project financing? Facts please.

You have to be crazy to not support the BJC expansion plan…
Lease payment to the city of around $2,000,000 per year.
Earnings taxes from all the new workers into many more millions.
Multiplier effect of those workers spending money in the city.
BJC plans to build a tot lot and tennis courts at alternative, nearby location.
Loss of city parkland miniscule when viewed as a percentage of our total parklands, let alone Forest Park.
And don’t forget-JOBS, JOBS, JOBS, and good paying ones to boot.
What’s not to like?
It’s funny how Conway thinks the hardest thing the aldermen will have to deal with is community opposition. If they don’t like it (not popular), then its hard to look any further.
C’mon, Steve, you can do better than that. What about the facts?

I agree with the last Anon. This is a political ploy by craved opponents of the mayor, and has very little to do with that parcel in Forest Park.
And I don’t appreciate the way many of the signature gatherers approached people, especially on Election Day. When I’ve seen those folks, the pitch went, “would you like to save our city parks?” That’s it.
When people have all the info, it’s a no-brainer. But they don’t.

When approached by petitioners, I proudly said I do favor protecting our parks, especially their financial future, as provided in part from leasing small sections of our parks.

It is idiotic to require citywide votes to grant utility easements within park property.
Does anyone know where Shrewsbury stands on this charter amendment? It would require a citywide vote on his Animal House project at Ellendale Park.

Park “advocates”? Should be Park “Crazies”
The amount of funding secured by the deal and the tax revenue generated by a proposed BJC expansion is without a doubt the best deal for the future of the city.
It will be interesting to see how city aldermen react to this deal. Afterall, it is THEIR job to legislate.

I can see Shrewsbury playing to his liberal base and opposing a BJC expansion, but how do you explain Darlene’s stance?
Hopefully she’s just negotiating for the best deal, which in the end, I expect Shrewsbury to pretty much do the same thing.

Considering the fact that the original deal backed by the mayor didn’t even include annual increases over the life of the 99-year lease, I think the Comptroller’s stance has already gotten taxpayers a better deal.

Shrewsbury’s liberal base, that is funny.

I am personally against the *sale,* as it is a defacto sale not a lease, yet it should be up to the voters to decide. This is public land and unilateral decisions will leave a legacy far beyond any Mayor, Board President, or Comptroller, term. When it comes to this big of a decision, the people should have their say.
