O’Brien Skips Work Session

Posted on 24 January 2007 by Antonio D. French

A PUB DEF VIDEO REPORT

A representative from the Missouri School Boards Association conducted a workshop this evening for members of the St. Louis Board of Education to discuss successful practices of functioning school boards. All but one school board member attended tonight’s session. Board President Veronica O’Brien left before Dr. David Lineberry began his presentation.

How predictable. Of course she isn’t interested in how much chaos she causes by acting inappropriately at board meetings.

More proof that she, as Slay’s appointee, will keep up with the antics that make the school district look ridiculous, despite the hard work of so many others.

The one that needs to attend the workshop the most to learn proper adult behavior, decorum and a sane appearance doesn’t attend! I guess most mentally ill people aren’t aware they need help!

So, was Lineberry able to offer what the difference is between effective and ineffective boards, since he said both claim with equal fervor to care about kids and to understand disagreements happen?

Speaking of dysfunctional school boards, below is the web site for the Missouri “Report Card” for Wellston School District. The State took control in the summer of 2005. Compare the 2005 stats (which is for the 2004/2005 school year) and the post-state-takeover stats for 2005/2006. If this is the best the state can show for their efforts, how can they consider taking over a pre-school?

SLPS needs improvement, of course. But I have more faith in Bourisaw, even as she has to fight off the idiocy of the school board, than I do in the state with their dismal record.

Absolutely anon#1, this was specifically done by her for appearance purposes. When the Board President of a dysfunctional board doesn’t attend the training, it’s just another reason to give the state to come in and take over.

Poor Ron Jackass looks a bit board, sounded like it was a good presentation though for those that listened..

These types of presentations are thought provoking and engaging.
That is what they are designed to do. Focus St. Louis did a
similiar ‘board development’ seminar for our non-profit group which
was needed because some of the board members (of which all are
volunteers)needed guidance in coming to terms that a board sets
    visions and goals, not micromanaging

For one to fully come to terms with the purpose of such a development
meeting, one must give up the personal power, personal vandettas, and
hidden agendas, and seek a return to the primary reason they were
elected for in the first place - the kids and the schools. For many
people on many boards, this can be an upsetting expereince which they
would they would rather not face.
