Triplett’s Web Commercial

Posted on 05 February 2007 by Antonio D. French

6th Ward Alderman candidate Kacie Starr Triplett has posted a new web commercial on her campaign website. The spot, produced by A.D. French & Associates, highlights Triplett’s campaign pledge to be the most accessible and responsive alderman at city hall.

Triplett’s opponents in the March 6th primary are Christian Saller and Committeeman Patrick Cacchione.

All three candidates have been invited to a debate tonight at 7:00 at the Central Library, 1301 Olive St., hosted by the League of Women Voters and the Downtown Residents Association.

Expect great things from this lady at City Hall. The 6th Ward is lucky to have her.

  2. Anonymous Says:

This is very interesting. I understand that Ms. Triplett is the daughter of a union official, she has courted labor and received several endorsements from labor, yet uses a NON-UNION video production for her first spot.

There are numerous union production companies and freelance crews in St. Louis that have years of experience in this type of work, yet the UNION-BACKED candidate chooses to go RAT.

I wonder how dad John and the guys up on Larimore Road feel about that. They should all be ashamed of themselves.

  3. Anonymous Says:

Anonymous why are you hating? Triplett received this video production courtesy of AD French and Associates. Mr. Pub Def himself.

Could it be that your candidate, is lagging so far behind that you choose to nit pick at Ms. Triplett’s creativity and brilliance?

  4. Anonymous Says:

I’m not nitpicking. I just have to question why someone that accepts donations from labor organizations chooses to spend that money with a non-union company.

By the way, I doubt that the spot was done “courtesy” of A.D. French. She is a client, therefore I am sure that money has changed hands.

  5. Anonymous Says:

Anonymous, I’d rather see Triplett’s campaign money “change hands” with Antonio French, as oppossed to Jim Talent and Todd Akin.

  6. Anonymous Says:

How about discussing the substance of the commercial? Triplett promises to be accessible to everyone in the ward. Good enough for me.

  7. Antonio D. French Says:

    A. D. French & Associates’ lone employee has tried to unionize several times and each time I crush the attempt using tactics that would make even Sam Walton cry.

First, I deny myself bathroom breaks. Then I force myself to work overtime without pay. Then I make myself go to political events and shake dozens of hands without washing my own — without health insurance!

I’m a bastard of an employer. I should quit, but where will I go?

  8. Anonymous Says:

when did Kacie earn all her “experience?” Was it while she worked part-time as a cosmetics counter sales person? OR, was it when she missed all those 6th ward meetings before she decided to run?

  9. Anonymous Says:

Anyone who knows Kacie knows that she has ALWAYS been a hard worker. Unlike some people who can afford to live in a mansion for a home, Kacie has had to work 3 jobs to make ends meet. She has worked full time for Russ Carnahan while at the same time working part-time in retail and also starting her own cleaning business.

Kacie also completed her Masters Degree in the night program while working full time for Dick Gephardt.

Kacie has the experience and commitment that we need in the 6th Ward. I am a voter in the 6th Ward and I am tired of the petty politics that are being played by Cacchione and his supporters.

NO! I will not take down my yard sign for Kacie. Yes, I know she is 26 years old, and yes I know that she is African American and supported by Lacy Clay. So what?! Kacie is the type of leader that we need in the 6th Ward and for anyone to speak badly about her working in retail while also holding down a full time job AND starting a business all while uder the age of 30 should be ashamed of themselves!

Interesting. The Mayor of DC had the exact same commercial throughout his campaign. I guess you use what works. I won’t hold this against her, but I sure hope she has some originality…..

  11. Anonymous Says:

Very nice. For a local race where money is tight you do with what you have. Unions… what are those… They are losing political pull by the day.

  12. Doug Duckworth Says:

Potholes? Call the Department of Streets. If there is some type of bureaucratic failure inside the Department of Streets where they cannot deliver service, then thats another issue. As a legislator, her job would be oversight of the Mayor and his agencies, yet promising “accessibility,” or favors for votes, is classic machine politics which has gotten us no where.

Being accessible to the public is good but does not mean one is a leader. Leading is bringing the electorate to a vision which is beyond their normal perception, not promising to fix the streets. If she wants to be a leader then inform the citizens of how services are delivered. Once everyone understands the flow chart perhaps then we can work on our SLPS, crime, corporate slum lords, suburban development, inept LRA, and regional job inaccessibility. Maybe some of this is her vision? Perhaps it should be specified in forthcoming AD French ads.

Sitting on my desk in front of me right now is a letter from the Triplett campaign asking that my organization doanate $500.00 because of all odf the labor support that she has.It touts her “strong labor background” and all of her labor support.

Sorry Kacie…my organizations $500.00 would have been willing to make a contribution if you had done the right thing when you decided to have a video produced.

If you’re going to ask for this kind of money from labor, then it isn’t too much to ask of you to use union labor when producving spots…

  14. Anonymous Says:

Nobody has brought race up as a positive or negative yet!! Congrats, everyone!

  15. Anonymous Says:

Geez Pub Def. You are costing Ms. Triplett the race!

    Ha ha ha ha ha!

Triplett has solid union support and I doubt that a union guy is sitting behind a computer saying, “Thats it. We are not going to support Triplett!! Instead we are going to throw all our support behind the candidates who have no labor printed materials, drives foreign cars, donates to Republicans, and doesn’t know a PLA from a PLO.”

Dough, if you could vote in this election your opinion might be worth something.

Part of the job of an alderman IS to respond to residents’ complaints about potholes. It’s not machine politics, it’s constituent service, and it’s important. You think that the Dept of Streets gives a shit when you call them? No, but they care when your alderman does.

It’s not the only job requirement, but you can’t just dismiss it as meaningless. And, at the end of the day, I imagine that adults who live in the 6th Ward DO care about those things, and we’ll have to let them decide.

  17. Doug Duckworth Says:

Legislators do not deliver services as this is the job of the bureaucracy. Oversight is important but aldermen shouldn’t have to take calls from citizens every day regarding issues like street paving or potholes. The agency should have internal procedures which ensure accessibility and responsiveness to the electorate.

If the agency is not accessible then the legislature steps in and fixes the problem so it does not occur in the future. Don’t ask Kacie to fill the potholes, ask her to get the Department to do its job, assuming there is some failure.

  18. Anonymous Says:

Doug Duckworth what is the problem Bro! Doug you seem angry about some things on this website everytime you post. I thought you had more positive things to say when I first met you. I hope that you are not getting jaded Ducky, and you know who gave you the nickname Ducky!

Ducky, I noticed you changed your photo on this website and put on a hat, and I wonder if you are trying to look like a gangster.

I would leave that life alone Ducky, unless you are packing serious heat because St. Louis is the most dangerous city in the United States. By the way, it is built to stay that way!

Ducky, be cool because Alderman get calls about everything whether they like it or not! It’s like that and that’s the way it is!

  19. Anonymous Says:

Dough, it appears you don’t know much about how governments and bureaucracies actually work. Why don’t you get an education and then try posting something reasoned and intelligent.

  20. Brian Harris Says:

I find it interesting that people talk shit when they dont identify themselves. I also find it interesting to see how many of you dont treat each other nicely but I bet you wouldnt as much as frown at another person in real life. The last too poster need to leave doug along. and doug, you need to chill-out. I know you have a right to speak your mind but dang, give the girl a chance. She was just marketing herself here. OK, she made some mistakes but she’ll get it right, Im sure shes built on more than just accessablity. And you union nuckleheads, most people that run for office in the city dont use the union, even though they use the union bug, I used to work for a “white guy” who ran for office, I saw him use the bug while not always using a union contractor. Give her a chance, And I know everyone out ther is just so perfect but everyone has not atained to your level yet.

  21. jim heger Says:

Unions publish an awful lot of things in house, meaning they aren’t always using union publishers. I do know about this. Give the lady a break.

Antonio, I hope you are paying yourself time-and-a-half on those long nights.

  22. Doug Duckworth Says:

I am giving her a chance. Kacie’s website lists several points which I agree with and it would be nice to see her talk about those as well.

We need leadership that is unafraid to challenge the status quo, and represent the best interests for the people of the 6th Ward

Much better than I’ll fix your potholes.

  23. Josh Wiese Says:

If your taking money from unions and boasting in literature that you are union backed then every part of the campaign that the public has access to should be union.

I like the message and I have to disagree with you Doug. People dont call the city to get potholes fixed or broken street signs repaired- they call their alderman or the neighborhood assoc. We can squabble about this but honestly, people want one person to go to who will take care of it and quick.

I like the spot and am hoping that the next batch are a wee bit more informational rather than explaining that I will have her cell phone number.

Antonio you are a tyrant- file a grievance and get the bastard. Maybe even rent Harlan County to see what a real tyrant is like

  24. Doug Duckworth Says:

    Josh,

Yes, people call their aldermen for issues which should be directed to the City. It would be nice to see some officials slowly move in the opposite direction. This can’t continue if we are going to be a bigger City. Having an attitude like “hey its the way its done” will only make it harder for a transition to occur. The City departments need to be responsive, and with pressure it can happen.

  25. Anonymous Says:

who is her former boss endorsing? Has Cong. Carnahan endorsed her, he should know whether or not she’s a hard worker.

  26. Josh Wiese Says:

    Doug-

Pressure is not the word that I would use personally, maybe accountability. An Alderman has to set the precedent for what you are proposing to happen. Mainly that happens by letting your constiuent know that they can always call them BUT that they could also call that department directly and speak to so and so… and here’s their number.

I have found almost all of the departments in the city to be very accomodating and helpful. I always call them directly with my issues and then make sure to follow up with the alderman so he’s in the loop.

Changing a system such as St.Louis’ will take time. My guess is that in the ensuing years you will see more younger people coming out of the woodwork to start running for these positions. Thus the makeup of the city politics will change and the quality of services will change as well.

Just be glad that we have a forum like this to bitch about the fact that there are three- count ‘em three- young and qualified candidates running in the 6th. I have a man who sues his constiuents and rides a donkley in my ward- yowza!

  27. Anonymous Says:

This can’t continue if we are going to be a bigger City.

Yeah. Those ward-centric, constituent service-minded aldermen in Chicago have really held that city back.

  28. Doug Duckworth Says:

    January 9, 2007

It had been so long since we’ve had a Chicago alderman indicted that I was starting to think they’d all gone straight. Nah — just kidding.

Before Monday’s arrest of Ald. Arenda Troutman, however, it had seemed as if Mayor Daley had so marginalized the City Council during his 18-year reign that its 50 members didn’t have nearly as many opportunities to get into mischief as in the old days.

But the case against Troutman, as outlined by federal investigators, is a good reminder that the long-standing policy of aldermanic prerogative, which allows each alderman to be the main arbiter of development matters in his or her own ward, continues to create criminal possibilities for those greedy enough to take advantage.

Or maybe it just reminds us what Troutman herself succinctly stated in a secretly recorded conversation: “Well, the thing is, most aldermen, most politicians are ho’s.”

The “ho’s” reference will certainly lend a whole new meaning to addressing Troutman as “Madame Alderman” the next time she has the nerve to show up at a City Council meeting, her fellow brothel workers not being nearly as frank in public as we now learn the 20th Ward alderman is in private.

Although unions have become very big in the last century, we must never forget that the true American spirit can be found in the small business person just trying to achieve the American dream. It is a shame that with all of the opportunities that the union has, some of its members still would choose to not support a candidate because she chose to get a video from a single entrpreneur. It is not as if she went to a huge billion dollar production company with no union. You are talking about one man. She went to one man with a limited budget. I am in a union myself, but I will never subscribe to some of the tactics that are used inappropriatly. The unions are there to find unity in numbers and to ensure a healthy, positive work environment. You come together to get better benefits and opportunities. You don’t come together to pounce on someone smaller than you out of your own self righteousness. That is the same greed that created the unions.

  30. jim heger Says:

    Doug,
I know this is insignificant but it is bugging me…in my last blog I said something like “Give the lady a break”. You answered with something like “I am giving the lady a chance”. I didn’t say give her a chance I said give her a break… I was talking about the union stuff…not Ward 6 business. Just wanted to clear that up because I don’t know sh– about Ward 6’s business.
