According to campaign finance reports just made available on the State’s website, Aldermanic President Jim Shrewsbury collected $20,900 in two days last week, adding to his much-depleted coffers just hours before the polls open.
The largest donations of $5,000 each came from Illinois-based Market Street Bancshares and local EOI Employee PAC. Shrewsbury also received $2,000 each from Southwest Bank and the Site Improvement Association PAC, and a total of $2,400 from three different entities of the McGuire companies.
In the last few weeks, Shrewsbury has poured approximately $300,000 into his campaign to retain his position as Board President. He has had a much tougher than expected challenge from Alderman Lewis Reed who is backed by a majority of the city’s aldermen and recently won endorsements from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis American, and the Arch City Chronicle.
Polls open in nine hours.
*Reed is a client of A.D. French & Associates

If not Lewis Reed, who could have waged a serious challenge to Jim Shrewbury? Who would have. Lewis has made things interesting, and a vote for Shrewsbury is a vote to retain the status quo. Shrewsbury said it himself: “I won’t change”.
Combine that quip with his, “the aldermanic president can’t do anything about economic development” comment, and this campaign certainly has made for some great sound bites!

Reed has endorsements from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the St. Louis American, and the Arch City Chronicle.
Let’s see Tuesday how far those get him. By the way, how many undecided voters do you think read the ACC?

Reed a client of Antonio French. Sounds like he will not win.
Endorsed by the Post usually means you will not win. Check their record.

Actually, the Post endorsement is only the kiss of death in Republican primaries. In the August primaries, 71% of Democrats endorsed by the Post won their primaries, but two thirds of the endorsed Republicans lost their primaries.
Realistically people don’t give a crap about who newspapers endorse anymore.
