I think this is a terrible hire. The man’s health issues, his vagabond history, his skirting just this side of NCAA regulations, the number of players leaving his program, all far outweigh an obvious uncanny ability to coach. For this SLU does a 180º?

Probably for less, and certainly for no more, I’d be willing to wager they could have kept Lorenzo Romar, despite his ties to Washington. He had just begun to break through in this recruiting area. Had they been willing to upgrade the program in the same way then, (charter flights, better facilities, more money for assisstants, more money for recruiting, and most of all, more money for the head coach), they would have had a fighting chance to keep a younger, healthier, more dynamic, more popular, and longer lasting coach.

Just a thought.

Would hiring Romar created the same buzz? Yesterday I heard a report that 112 new season tickets had been sold already.
