VIDEO: Hubbard Campaign Kick-Off
Democratic State Rep. Rodney Hubbard kicked off his state senate campaign with a strong show of support from elected officials, former elected officials, and even some Republicans.

Among those spotted at Friday’s event at the Carr Community Center in north St. Louis:
State Senators Jeff Smith and Chris Koster (R-Harrisonville); State Representatives Jamilah Nasheed, Talibdin El-Amin, and Jim Lembke (R-St. Louis County); former State Reps Yaphett El-Amin, Betty Thompson (D-St. Louis County), and Mark Wright (R-Springfield); President of the Board of Aldermen Lewis Reed; License Collector Mike McMillan; former Mayor Freeman Bosley, Jr.; and Committeemen Jesse Todd (18th Ward) and Curtis Royston (27th Ward).

I think we learn a lot by watching politicians dancing. They usually dance alone with no discernible plan and apparently ignore each other except as necessary to avoid being stepped-on. Hmmmmm.

Hip hip hooray for Villa voting his constituency’s conscience–weaking sex education programs in public schools. Get sex education back into the homes, the synogogues, mosques, and churches where it belongs. It is considered a moral issue by many.
No one is against sex education, just who administers it. Let the parents decide.
Chris Carter isnt running for the Senate……….Connie says she doesnt want a repeat of the 4th Senatorial district race but she has not ruled out a run either……….I heard she is supporting Curtis Royston for her state rep seat though, which will be a mistake. I also heard the El-Amins and Hubbard are supporting his efforts as well. That shouldnt suprise anyone though because they all are tied up in the All Children Matter effort to take money away from public schools and give to private schools. What a shame……..
Jones did get a 100% rating from Pro-Vote. It also clearly states she missed 4 of their 10 major votes including MOHELA, HPV Vaccine, Intellectual Diversity, and Medicaid Restoration (not that any of those were important issues during 2007). Maybe next year she can miss all of her votes and get a 100% rating from every group.
Hubbard missed one of the votes and villa missed zero.
Somebody black has to get out the race, or else Tom Villa will win the Senate seat. There will not be another formidable white candidate running for Senate.
Who will raise more money from All Children Matters, and other white people controlled organizations than Villa?
White people are going to vote white in important races from here on out in the City of St. Louis elections and will be energized for this election, they are pissed that Jim Shrewsbury lost.
White people look at Jeff Smith as a loose cannon that is causing problems and personally confused, look for white people to run someone against him for his re-election.
White people are just starting to see the real Mike McMillan and know that he just wants to be Mayor in the end, so they are preparing a white candidate (unannounced) to go against him in 2013.
White people are definitely coming after Lewis Reed, so he better be raising moving and give white alderman some perks on the Board of Alderman to save himself.
Darling Green will have a strong white opponent against her for her re-election, in retaliation for picking a fight with BJC.
White people are taking over the City of St. Louis and buying black politicians by the barrel as they develop North St. Louis fast starting north of downtown and moving west like a locomotive train. Black people are being moved out of St. Louis City into North St. Louis County and the first step to lure black people to North St. Louis County was allowing Charlie Dooley to be re-elected County Executive. Most black people that make under $100,000 a year will be forced to live in North St. Louis County or elsewhere in the near future. Hell, Charlie Dooley is not sure what to do to secure his neighborhoods in North St. Louis County. He ain’t seen no black people in Spanish Lake, Black Jack, Hazelwood, Northwoods, and in the woods, like he is seeing now, and this will probably be Charlie Dooley’s last term. He is stressed out bad!
White people are not reporting in the media about the negative happenings in North St. Louis County, just the negative in the City of St. Louis so that black people will still think its great out in North St. Louis County and move there. North St. Louis County black people that ran away from blacks in the City of St. Louis are now moving to O’Fallon and St. Peters to get away from North St. Louis County blacks.
What a place to live? Now who is going to win what with two or more black candidates in the race!
Dern those evil “white” people. Let the Hutus treat them as they did the Tutsis.
Is there any wonder St. Louis is considered racist? And from which direction?!
Rodney has republican support, that support is the support that will be knocking doors and making pphone calls to the southside of that senatorial district. It will be hard for any candidate to beat him. ALthough he has made some enemies, he is a VERY shrewd politician and VERY effective at campaigning. At the end of the day people dont care if you vote party lines, they care about if you have help passed bills that will help them, ROdney seems to understand that. I dont agree with him on lots of issues such as education and his views on unions, but the guy does what he has to to get things done………..no matter if anyone agrees with it. Its something about that is refreshing.
I don’t hear anyone crying because Shrewsbury lost to Reed, except maybe the Kratky’s.
That guy was an ass and needed to go.
Hubbard will make a fine Senator, I hope he can defeat Villa.
WHat makes you think Villa will listen anymore than Hubbard or Wright-Jones?? You think they would be voting THAT much differently from what the other would? Besides education and the sex bill, they are voting with the Dems. Its not much of a difference, maybe who can bring some money back to theire area, but its really not a big difference. None of these guys are sponsoring any legislation that is so unique or vastly different from anyone else. None of them are powerbrokers in Jeff City, and if yo think they are your kidding yourself. Sure Rodney has an office on the Republicans floor, but that means nothing, sure Villa has a great wealth of knowledge and knows all the tricks of the trades, and RObin, well shes Robin. But they are only one vote and I doubt they can sway enough people from either side of the aisle to make a difference when it counts. Besides they will be a frshman senator anyway and have very little influence in tht spot.
LOL! For the record, Antonio put the song “black republican” behind this video. Witty stuff, sir!

I want to thank anonymous from 8:56am for bringing me up to date on what white people in the city are doing. I am white but I missed the meeting when all the white people decided what to do.
I wonder if they noticed how bad Carr School is only a few blocks away? Perhaps Rodney could secure some state monies and get that building addressed? It is very dangerous and there are children playing very close by.
Don is correct about the song selection; “Black Republican” by Nas and Jay-Z. The chorus goes like this:
I’m feeling like a Black Republican,
Money I got coming in
Can’t turn my back on the hood,
Too much love for ‘em.
I thought it was fitting given Hubbard’s statement addressing those that say he’s too close to the Republican leadership in Jefferson City.
“If you reach across the aisle, they call you a Republican,” he said.
He asked the crowd of supporters if they’d rather he just do like some of his colleagues and say “I couldn’t bring back anything for my district again this year because the Republicans are in charge”?
The appearance of some Republican legislators at his campaign kick-off shows that he definitely has bi-partisan support.
I think it was smart of Hubbard to address the criticism directly. He’s a smart guy and I think he’s going to make it hard for anyone seeking to deny his rise to the senate.
It is all about the day to day folk that vote. White south vote and not for homies. French is just trying to get someone to hire him.
“If you reach across the aisle, they call you a Republican,” he said.
A democrat who supports the republicans on vouchers is doing more than reaching across the aisle.
A different physical metaphor is needed.
> A democrat who supports the
> republicans on vouchers is
> doing more than reaching across
> the aisle.
Hmmmmm.
So why are vouchers OK for healthcare but not for education?

Hmmmmm.
So why are vouchers OK for healthcare but not for education?
What is the ratio of government owned hospitals and medical practices, to those privately owned, plus those supported by religion?
Would it be a good thing to have the same ratio regarding schools?
When you say healthcare vouchers–are you referring to medicare payments?
> When you say healthcare
> vouchers–are you referring
> to medicare payments?
Primarily yes, but not exclusively.

I saw this in the St. Louis American———–
ProVote recently released its 2007 Legislative Scorecard detailing the voting records of all 163 members of the Missouri House of Representatives on 10 critical bills from last session. Hubbard scored 67 percent - up from his 2006 “black stealth Republican†score of 44 percent. Villa scored 80 percent. Wright-Jones, however, received a perfect progressive score of 100 percent for the second consecutive year.
What held back Hubbard and Villa? Hubbard voted with conservative Republicans on all three education bills that were included in the Scorecard, including private school vouchers and making it harder for students to get low interest-rate loans for college. Villa voted with Republicans (and Hubbard) on the school voucher bill and also voted to weaken sex education programs in public schools.
Hubbard had a 100 percent score from Naral, but he is strong on vouchers—has to be a temptation for cafeteria catholics.
