Very nice! There is one thing that I would suggest. I feel like the font is too small. On the old site, the font was much larger. Switching to a sans-serif font (e.g. Arial) was a good idea. Just increase the font just a bit.

Looks good. I was new to the site and just getting used to it so this new change really isn’t all that “new” to me.
Good work!

Have to strongly, strongly disagree. Change is not always good. Your previous site was simple, easy to navigate, and MOST IMPORTANTLY easy to see what was updated. Videos stood out more prominantly. I would check it several times a day. This is too busy…you just lost me. Too much of a cookie-cutter layout now, and from what I have seen PubDef tries to be anything BUT cookie-cutter. Part of the problem of getting a cookie-cutter system like this are things like “Ad Spot 125 x 125″ in the upper right, while the cookie-cutter layout is still loading. Orange “tag” field is way, way too busy. Sorry you changed it, but you lost me.

Sorry you feel that way, Dow.
I’m glad you liked the old site, but it was time for a change. First, with the old site we lost a ton of measurable traffic (page views) because readers had to actually leave PubDef.net to post a comment (via Blogger.com). In fact, yesterday (our first full day with the new template) showed our highest number of recorded page views ever!
Second, just because a story was the most recent doesn’t mean it was the most important. I was often faced with having to hold on to a smaller news bit so I could keep the day’s top story at the top of the blog (and preserve it’s time stamp, proving we indeed reported it before anyone else). That is no longer a concern.
And as for quickly seeing which stories are new now, check out the “recent posts” section near the bottom right of every page (beneath “Categories”).
I hope you grow to like the new site as the vast majority of our readers have already indicated they do.
Thanks for visiting.

Usability - Pages load faster in a browser.
Development - Site does not make the user feel lost.
Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, Proximity = 5 stars
Good Job!
