Supporters to Rally for Bourisaw

Before tonight’s meeting of the Special Administrative Board, supporters of outgoing Superintendent Diana Bourisaw will be gathering outside the school district’s administrative building to show support for the woman who was as expectedly pushed out of her job as she was unexpectedly appointed to it just over a year and a half ago.

The event will be part rally and part candle light vigil. Supporers are scheduled gather at 801 North 11th Street tonight starting at 5:30 PM. Candles will signify the loss the district is suffering with Bourisaw’s exit, says organizers. Close to 7:00, statements of support from parents and legislators will be read.

While Bourisaw’s supporters are outside, Bourisaw will be inside with the three-member board the state put in charge of the city schools just months after she was hired.

I might be wrong—but i believe the core of the issue was Dr. Bourisaw’s principled opposition to charter schools which can be run irresponsibly, as they take money from the district.

Her opposition to the Can academy being brought in, expressed to the state board last May, opposition answered and rejected by Kent King, needs to be examined.

It might be easy to sell the public on something like kipps—but it could be part of a larger bait and switch to cheap warehouses which has been pushed by mayor Slay all the way back to the Roberti years.

Explanations need to be forthcoming from the sab. Maybe i am completely off-base regarding the charter school angle.

I wish Joan Bray had time to attend.

I wish she had a backbone.

Kjoe, you are correct,Dr. Bourisaw’s opposition to charter schools is the reason the SAB and that damn Slay want her gone!

The reason she’s being fired is because she DOES have a backbone.

Po Righteous, I meant Joan Bray, not Dr. Bourisaw.

I think they should bring Dr. Williams back as the CEO and Michael Johnson from the YMCA as his Chief of Staff. They were a great team in St. Louis.
