Another Residency Challenge Coming

Posted on 29 April 2008 by Antonio D. French

PubDef.net has learned that State Rep candidate Tishaura Jones will be challenging the residency of her opponent, April Harris. But unlike the ongoing residency fight in the 5th Senate District race, Jones will be filing her complaint with election authorities, not with the courts.

I am appalled by the mockery of the allocations against these young ladies. Isn’t there enough to do about the failing economy, no healthcare and no medicine for people without jobs? Do something constructive and stop fighting amongst yourselves. You look foolish! Take this negative energy and turn it into a positve and come together for all people instead of the selfish attacks on one another which are fruitless.
Stop bickering like children and do something that you can be proud to place on this site. What are the real issues? Do you know? How will you battle the real war? Are you prepared to run the Senate race? it doesn’t appear so. Stop the mess and get on with the business of the race!

Scribe, you are redundant! One posting of your message is sufficient!

What about Robert Stelzer? I heard he lived in Europe until December last year and hasn’t voted in ten years - should he be challenged as well? I thought you had to LIVE in the area you are running in for a year prior to the election.

  8. Paul Nimmus Says:

The mockery is from the potential candidate and their disregard for legality of residency. Lying under oath is a real issue and goes to the heart of whether that person seeking to represent us has the ethically bearing to do so. Just live where you say you live. Simple!

  9. Nonchalant Says:

Paul is right. People who use PO Boxes have something to hide.

I know, I know. Wasn’t trying to get a repeat message first time on the site. Now I know. Sorry Star.

Being here tonight reminds me of the farmer who had incestuous relations with his daughter.

The problems is that the St Louis Board of Elections does nothing to go after non-residents of the district. Jeff Smith was a known carpetbagger. He finally moved into a garage in the district but complaints to the Board fell on deaf ears. So ofcourse Johnson doesn’t think she has to worry about living in the district.

And, if I was Miss Jones, I would be more concerned about showing her ability to serve as State Rep as I hear she showed up at Local 420’s candidate endorsement meeting with her new baby. That’s like a job interview. If you don’t have a babysitter in place to get the job, what assurance is in place that you’ll have someone to watch your baby if you’re in Jefferson City?

  14. Clark Says:

What could the Board of Elections or the Secretary of State done to keep Jeff Smith from becoming a candidate? He established residency in the district in time to qualify for the ballot, much as Russ Carnahan did when he moved to St. Louis to run for office.

And Jeff Smith moved back to the district; he previously lived in the 4th before he taught at Dartmouth.

  16. sue gaston Says:

Clark, please don’t remind me that Jeff Smith teaches. It’s scary enough that he gets to make decisions for us. Everytime i think about some student sitting in a room listening to his mis-information I shudder!

  17. Clark Says:

I’ll be happy to keep reminding you, as he still teaches both at Wash U as a lecturer and at the Mathews-Dickey Boys Club on Saturday mornings as a tutor. He’s a smart guy, and won a teaching award at Wash U in 2002.

I heard he is mediocre at basketball…….

  19. Paul Nimmus Says:

    Sue,

I think your analysis and comments on Ms. Jones is shortsighted, insensitive and misses the mark. I would venture to say that Ms. Jones, and her motherhood best suits her to be a public servant because she has a clear stake and motivation to address issues and problems facing the commoners of this city; like child care affordablity, working to ensure that we have quality schools, and safe neighborhoods where children can learn, play and develop. Now who is best to understand that, and how to create a nurturing environment than a mother? Your point goes further to prove Ms. Jones, or any mother wishing to serve in the public, the level of sacrifice that these individuals are willing to make to serve there communities. Dear Mamas, you are appreciated!

  20. Nonchalant Says:

Local 420? Like a job interview? Please!! They don’t have the perceived power that they used to have. I heard that Local 420 didn’t call candidates until the night before to even tell them they were interviewing. How unorganized can ‘organized labor’ be?

Showing up with her baby doesn’t mean she’s irresponsible or less qualified. But, having $800 in tickets and getting your car towed from in front of City Hall does show irresponsiblity and blatant disregard for the law. Not to mention, I heard that Miss Harris doesn’t even have a driver’s license! How’s she going to get to Jefferson City if she can’t drive? Who’s she going to bum rides from every week? As the Whirl said, “Shame on you Miss Harris.”

  21. Basketball Star Says:

I’ve seen Sen Jeff Smith play with Nelly and he has a great camp each year. You should go if you can shoot cause the guy is goooooood!!!

  22. Scribe Says:

I think that as leaders and I guess we are because we are interested in who is running, we need to rally around these people and help them if need be instead of riduling them. I believe these are the only candidates we have and no matter what their issues, we all have them from time to time may not be of the same flavor but issues just the same. Let’s find out how we can help and stop being a hinderance. It’s hard enough getting adequate people to represent us. Let’s help them no matter who’s camp they’re in. Bottom line one of them will be our State Representative unless there is a hidden plan out there.

  23. stlvoice Says:

Strange, to bad it is not only the election board not interested in pursuing the issue of residency. The media here choses who they will report on and who they won’t. I guess it is a matter of who is paying who.
