Antonio D. French is a writer, political consultant, and an elected Democratic Committeeman proudly living on the north side of St. Louis City. He is currently a candidate for Alderman of the 21st Ward.
It has been quite a struggle over the years to reincarnate Dr. MLK Drive. I know that your vision is for the part of it that’s in your ward - which would indeed be a historic feat accomplished. “ALL THINGS are possible if you believe”. Public money is not the answer and never will be the resolve to produce a “public-oriented” vision. Firstly, stakeholders must see & believe in the vision (as well as the parties conveying the vision). Secondly, private funds, investors, entreprenuers and citizens of the community must bind together toward the common goal of enhancing the quality of life for the city by investing in the Ville proper. Third, and MOST IMPORTANT, the “elephant in the room” is…What’s in it for ME???? If that question is answered as a part of the vision and communicated strategically to all, mission WILL BE accomplished!
Much success in the quest; and you have my vote if ice cream and barbecue vendors are included in the plans!
Sam Moore is not the man to attract anyone to this part of the city. He is an uneducated, crude and boorish bigot.
Last year, as an Operation Brightside volunteer, I was stopped and harassed by Alderman Moore for loading mulch into my pickup truck in front of Sumner H.S. Moore seemed to think that a white guy in his ward was suspicious and accused me of being a landscaper from the county who was in the neighborhood stealing “his people’s” mulch.
Alderman Moore used racial epithets when he addressed me and seemed to really enjoy a brief moment of inflicting Jim Crow on a white guy.
Shame on him. Shame on the voters who brought him into office. So long as he is alderman, MLK blvd will only be inviting to a certain type of St. Louisan.

My family has known Alderman Sam Moore for over 30 years. Sam Moore is a licensed carpenter. He is an educated man. He comes from a good and respected family. His deceased father was a Preacher. He is the most non-boorish man I have ever known. Sam Moore is one of the most eloquent men I have ever known and possesses a mother-wit which is a delight.
Sam Moore is not perfect. Who is? Alderman Sam Moore cares about his community and always has. He is his own man and has been and will continue to be an asset to his community. Maybe you’re not the “type” of St. Louisan MLK needs.
My father was one of the first black businessmen to have a business on MLK. It was called Easton then. Sam Moore was a small boy back then and worked for my father. Our fathers knew and respected one another. So I think Alderman Moore has more knowledge about MLK and what it needs than you do. May God Bless you, Brian.
