On Sunday, State Representative Jamilah Nasheed and her challenger, Asst. Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, met in the studios of Hot 104.1 FM to debate live on the Demetrius Johnson show. PubDef.net was there.
Here’s part one of the video:
And here’s part two:
Assistant Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner
Please explain the treatment of a black Missouri Certified Police Officer at the hands of your Boss Jennifer Joyce (St. Louis Circuit Attorney) compared to that of a St. Louis County police officer who was issued a summons for pointing a pistol at an unarmed parking lot attendant and the black police officer booked and charged with felony’s, having to post bond; however cleared in a courtroom.
Why was the black police officer treated differently than that of the white police officer ?
How would you have handled this case ?
Are there separate rules for black and white ?
Posted by Bill Monroe | 24. Jun, 2008, 9:02 AMShould it be assumed that because Ms. Gardner is a black assistant prosecutor that she should have the answer and solutions for all questions relative to black people and the law. Would it fair to question because Rep. Nasheed works as a legislature that she should assume the responsibility of having the answer to why the City of St. Louis, especially North St. Louis has steadily been neglected. Or sense crime has increased over the past two years that she should assume the responsibility. Come on Bill, let’s be fair. Bottom line, we want tough but fair, and equitable laws. I’m tired of people making excuses, while murders are taking place on a daily basis in the City of St. Louis. Governor Matt Blunt is Rep. Nasheed’s boss, should she assume the responsibility of his actions?

Posted by charlie | 25. Jun, 2008, 1:22 AMAfter Neicy Nasheed’s vote FOR the Republicans Campaign Finance agenda, it’s hard to see her remaining on the Budget committee or in a leadership role in the Democratic party. That decision/action alone leaves at least 11 democratic 50/50 districts vulnerable in the House for the November election. Had Neicy Nasheed not been the 82nd vote, Democrats would have had a commanding opportunity to win the House of Representatives majority. She will remain in the newby/freshman seat up front in the chamber, right next to where Jane Cunningham used to sit. How fitting for this bargain sale Politician.

Tough but Fair…
Respectfully I was not requesting Ms. Gardner to answer ALL questions relative to black people and the law; just to comment on ONE Issue and thats the Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce’s obvioius racist mis-handling of one of the most recent debacles involving clear legal directions that were not followed by her office.
My final question as I think about the former Judge Evelyn Baker’s departure from the Circuit Court and her assesment of the office of the Circuit Attorney is WHY did’nt Ms. Gardner run to oppose Jennifer Joyce in the election for Circuit Attorney ?
Is Ms. Gardner truley concerned about her community ?
Imagine the impact Ms. Gardner could have if she was elected to that office….
Posted by Bill Monroe | 25. Jun, 2008, 9:27 AMAnother question for Ms. Gardner-
Why did you choose to run against State Representative Nasheed and allow your boss in the Circuit Attorneys Office to run un-opposed given the history of that office that you must have personal knowledge ???
Our Community would have given you strong support I believe.
Respectfully submitted.
Posted by Bill Monroe | 25. Jun, 2008, 4:46 PMAll due respect Bill, why didn’t you run? You seem to have much more personal knowledge to the injustices. To whom much is given, much is expected! Or maybe Rep. Nasheed could have run against Jennifer Joyce.
Posted by James Brooks | 26. Jun, 2008, 6:31 AMHey Mr. Brooks,
first you would be surprised to know how much knowledge the average black man over 5o years of age has about injustice;since I am not a practicing attorney-I cannot run for the office of Circuit Attorney.
I was sort of enjoying the respectfull communication you and I were having until you digressed.
Have a Good Life.

Posted by anon | 26. Jun, 2008, 12:15 PMMiss Gardner didn’t seem to be well prepared for this “debate”.
