Antonio D. French is a writer, political consultant, and an elected Democratic Committeeman proudly living on the north side of St. Louis City. He is currently a candidate for Alderman of the 21st Ward.
I’m tired of people attacking young black people trying to do something positive, whether you agree with them or not. Like the St. Louis American, the African-American weekly, that consistently attacks young aspiring blacks like Rep Hubbard, El-Amin, Antonio French and even Rep. Nasheed, via a caucasian, (Chris King) who takes the liberty to refer to Blacks as Negroes, and yet we sit and allow this behavior, shame! I’m tired of white folk feeling comfortable with insulting, assaulting other blacks, and the sad thing is the blacks stand for this. Doug, or any other caucasian stop issuing blank, unsubstantiated statements. The problem is people, ie, the St. Louis American and others who attack young blacks, is that you seek to control the thinking and movement. Message…Slavery is over. And Black men stop allowing white men and others to insult your brothers and your sisters, no matter who you support.
OMG! Misuse of verbs and nouns… Over-inflated accomplishments stacked… GED Neicy still slanging smack. Whoooooooo Hooooooo. Kim Gardner, please don’t send her back!!!
I point out hypocrisy and corruption regardless of the perpetrators skin color.
My statements are quite substantiated.
El-Amin was arrested for protesting minority job disparity back in 1999 with Al Sharpton. They shut down Highway 70. Yet she wont take a stand for those African American victims of Paul McKee’s racist, illegal blockbusting in J-V-L and St. Louis Place?
The same goes for Rodney “GOP Wannabe” Hubbard.
Even if you’re a small government pro-privatization conservative, McKee’s methods are clearly in violation of local, state, and federal law. They do not represent free market laissez faire capitalism, but rather collusion between the private and public sector for the hedonistic personal benefit of invidiual actors McKee and Slay. McKee profits greatly at the expense of African Americans, and the entire state through the Distressed Areas Land Assemblage Tax Credit Act, whereas politically Slay becomes the savior of the North Side, which apparently has not seen any new development in many decades.
McKee’s ideology runs contrary to everything African Americans fought for whether in the courts through the NAACP or on the streets with CORE, SNCC, the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, or the SCLC. I’m going to feel disgust when I witness African American leaders folding at the time where they should be protesting, synthesizing the resources of the Slay Recall effort and Ameren UE fiasco into one city wide reform agenda. Shouldn’t we expect politicians to advocate for their electorate, especially when they are victims and have no other champion?
The great African American novelist and activist James Baldwin would call McKee’s policy Negro Removal. He and Malcolm X coined that term, describing Urban Renewal, in the 1960’s. It’s state sponsored, subsidized brutalization.
As co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense, Huey P. Newton, once said:
“We’re used, brutalized, the Police occupy our area as a foreign troop occupies territory…there to contain us…brutalize and murder us…the Police couldn’t possibly be there to protect our property…we own nothing…the Police are only in our community, not for our security, but for the security of the business owners…ensure the status quo is kept in tact.”
I’m not a part of this status quo, no matter how popular it happens to be, and I’m not going to be silent.
This is a good debate. Voucher walkers and Slay-planters, oh my!! It looks to me like Rodney “F” Hubbard is positioning himself as the next Bill Clay, Sr….All that behind the scenes power. Does he have 2 dogs in this race?
Though she and Rodney Hubbard completely disagreed about that issue, she and Rodney are friends and are supporting each other in their respective elections on August 5th.
Yes, she voted no whereas her other colleagues did the opposite. Why has her leadership ended there?

Being used by Mayor Slay? What about being used by Paul McKee? Let’s get serious here.

Doug, you’re a misinformed idiot. Jamilah Nasheed was leading fight against the Land Assemblage Tax Credit. See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9brbl4p_n4
