Sherman was the subject of the cover story of the forth issue of Public Defender, the newspaper that eventually became PubDef.net. “Coming Out” was the title of the story. “Black Republicanism has a new face in the Missouri House,” read the cover back in 2002.

Sherman was a good guy and I’m going to miss him.

I want to start off by saying how truly sad it made me to hear of Sherman’s passing. Sherman had a way of making you feel like you were someone even if you (I) were nothing more than a waitress in Jefferson City trying to make ends meet. God bless his family during this time. He was a true gentleman indeed, and I will miss him dearly.

I just found out through a mutual friend. I have known Sherman since 2000. Such a great person and this comes as a shock and so upsetting. He will be missed :(

I am sick to hear this news. I met Sherman some years ago when he worked for Jim Talent and later was honored to help with his campaigns. While he lived in St. Charles, he never once refused a request to help with our charitable efforts in the city. He once took time to explain state government to my daughter when she was in grade school and had to do a project on the subject, even though we were not in his district. I hope you will post funeral arrangements. At my age, I am sort of getting used to hearing about the deaths of my contemporaries, but a guy like this at 37…

Thanks for posting that photo of Sherman. He was a good friend to a lot of people and will be missed. Let’s keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

I AM GREATLY SORRY TO HEAR OF THE LOSS OF ONE OF MY CO-WORKERS, SHERMAN PARKER.

[At the request of the family, I have deleted the rest if this comment. Let's just keep this about our friend Sherman and our memories of him. -ADF]

I am deeply saddened today. For we all lost a man willing to fight the norms and traditional ways of thinking. Sherman was a supporter of mine and I of him. He was the first Republican I worked for and I have never regretted it. He was a man among men and I will relish the conversations we had and work to accomplish our shared goals. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Sherman. He married my oldest son Jim and his wife Jennifer in 2002. He was truely a great guy. I am honered I got to meet him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Sherman Parker was a outstanding student and athlete. He was the kind of person who always cared about the interest of his fellow students. Following graduation from Affton High School, Sherman, by way of an athletic scholarship, continued his education at the University of Vermont. After completing his education in Vermont, Sherman went on to excel as a leader in business and politics. Sherman was the kind of gentleman whose integrity was above reproach. He will indeed be missed.

We are saddened to hear of the death yesterday of the former Rep. Sherman Parker (R-St. Charles).

The Missouri Women’s Coalition worked closely with Sherman in 2004 when he sponsored domestic violence legislation (HB1274). A true friend, Sherman stood up to the NRA which actively fought the bill and fellow Republicans who insisted that domestic violence is just a myth. The bill, which has also been sponsored by Sen. Joan Bray in the MO Senate continuously since 2004, passed out of committee but never made it to the House floor for a full vote.

Sherman told us as we lobbied hard for the bill’s passage that he was very shaken by an incident that happened to his sister. He wanted to insure that no other woman in Missouri would ever be in the same situation, fearing for her life in a domestic incident with a firearm present.

Sherman will be missed – as a friend and compassionate legislator against domestic violence. We send our condolences to his family.

I am going to miss my buddy. I have known Sherman when he was elected to the House. He and Earp were always great to be around. God Bless

My Buddy, My Pal, My Inspiration:

My body is numb, my heart is heavy and my soul is weary. Tomorrow will come and the people will rejoice and all voices will be heard, all but one. Sherm you lived for the moment and you died thinking about the many. You had a plan but your plan came second to the one that God laid. You’ve been called home now and we’ll never know entirely what your plan was. But we do know is that God now has with him an advocate that won’t be silenced. And will shout with all his might that we all are equal, we all are one. Sherm one day you came to me and told me that I was the one person in your life that you really looked up to. I just responded in vain. But what I should have said is that you are the one I looked up to. You are the one who had the courage to do the things I could just comment on. No let’s make no mistake here; you were the visionary, the architect, the planner. This is day is the day that we all lost a great architect of life. And I, my girls and your Aunt will miss you terribly.

My Buddy, my pal, my inspiration.

I love you Sherm. I love you for all that you were and all that you challenged me to become. I’m grateful more than ever now that when the day comes and I’m standing at the crossroad, I’ll have someone like you to lead the way…

You’re Uncle, your friend, Your Pal,

My thoughts are with Sherman’s family, friends, and all of you. Sherman was truly one of the good people in the world that I am glad to have known and called my friend.

He taught me to always believe in yoursef and that anything is attainable if you set your mind to it.

The world will truly miss this remarkable man; he made a difference in so many people’s lives.

Sherman -

I will miss your insight and your desire to do what was right, regardless of what others thought. We are all stunned at this loss. I am fortunate to have grown up with someone like you and I know my parents are as proud of you as they are of their own sons. I trust that you and your mom are in a better place together. Thank you for being you.

I love and respect Sherman. He honored himself and his family throughout his relationships, his campaigns, elections, selections and intraspection.
He is a good influence on my children, he spoke to them in detail for their mandatory high school documents about Government in a bipartisan approach, He enlightened them to the ever present political and socioeconomic changes that you must be aware of while a Government Servant. He taught them to not be rigid, that you are better in
Government when you can listen to all opinions without prejudice. He told them of the future of politics with gentlemen like skill sets and told them to think more of their minority population and how to provide for them while you must benefit the majority. So as Sherman would have it be, many people will have improved lives because of his desire to share his organs and cells, and these gracious recipients, like my sons, will exponentially tell people of the gifts he gave. Because of Sherman many people will live with improved lives and some others may now take the time to prepare the documents for their family mindset to do the same organ donation. In his honor, we too, can live giving to many and die giving to many more. Sherman is a Legend.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Sherman. He was a best friend and an inspiration to me and many others. I will miss him dearly and will always cherish the great times we had at UVM and in Boston. My heart is heavy and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I am so saddened by the passing of my friend Sherm. He always looked after me. He helped me in my career and in tough personal times. I know he has helped a lot of people here. I ask that you all remember him and help his daughter Alex who will need all of your help.

Sherman Parker, my ‘lil Brother, my friend, I never have met a brother, so up close and personal, that loved the crazy life of politics as much as Sherman Thompson Parker. He was a torch, a firestarter. He was his own man, a man’s man, a leader. He was not a “Yes” man. He followed his own heart and desires. He had his own plan. I met Sherman Parker in 2002 when the Boone CO Republican Party came after me to run for State Representative. Sherman, packed up “His Boyz” and came to Columbia and knocked on doors and worked hard on my campaign. Encouraging me every step of the way. I didn’t win the political race, but came out the winner anyway…I had Sherman Parker as a friend…just talked to him last week…we kept it real in our communication.
He loved his daughter, Alexandra…please support her and her family by donating to her college fund.
Republican politics will not be the same without him stirring things up! I miss you, Sherman! God bless your family and close friends.

The devastating news was very hard to accept. Sherman was a brother (to me), a best friend and an innovator. I will always remember his zeal and vision to become the first black republican president. His accomplishments definitely proved he was well on his way. My heart and prayers go out to his family and love ones.

I was completely stunned to hear about Sherman’s passing. My prayers go out to Sherman’s family during this difficult time. I must have met Sherman somewhere around 1999 but had since lost contact. I ran into him a few times since I’ve been back in St. Louis. I was so proud to hear about all that he had accomplished. He was inspirational in his drive and passion for what he believed in. I will always remember his kindness and that great smile. May God’s peace be with his family and friends.

He had a strenght that was matched only by his tenderness. Courage and conviction that inspired and motivated all who he encountered. A passion that was contagious…and spirit like no other. He was a forward thinker, pragmatic, yet always compassionate. Because of his carriage and presense, many didn’t see the boyish and impish grin very often that I cherrished and adored! He had lofty plans, goals and dreams that I couldn’t wait to help him fufill….
Life is so precious… so sacred; he lived each day to it’s fullest!
The hollow that I feel by his absense will be the very inspiration that catapults me to continue forawrd. The world has lost a shining example of true honor! Until we meet again, my best friend and love…KDP

I know brother I am always late and never there, but you know as your one and only little sister by love by blood I miss you. You will always be missed you are one of my favorite big brothers. You always did your big brother thing and there was nothing you wouldn’t do for me and mine. It’s been years since I seen you and that smile of yours is all I can remember. I always said you looked like mom. You will be missed big brother and I must say Enasia had a ball with you and Alex this summer. I am so glad that she got a chance to spend time with you and Al. I love you so much and I hate that I was not there to say good bye to you. Some things happen for a reason, but you will always be my big brother in this life and the next. The kids and I love you and miss you. The world is just not the same without you. Bye Big Brother
