War Protest in Clayton Wednesday

Anti-war group St. Louis Instead of War Coalition will have a protest in Clayton Wednesday, marking the anniversary of the Iraq War, which began this week five years ago.

Several hundred war protesters will stand in-between the two-and-a-half blocks from Senator Christopher “Kit” Bond’s office at the corner of Hanley and Bonhomme to the office of a Boeing subcontractor in the 7700 block of Forsyth.

The protest will last from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The anti-war group is calling for an end to all funding for the war with the exception of money to withdraw troops from the region. The group also wants the US government to commit funds to the reconstruction of Iraq through international organizations once the withdrawal is complete.

This protest is in conjunction with similar protests that will take place throughout the country Wednesday.

Protesters are singling out Sen. Bond because of his connections with Boeing and other military contractors. The group claims Bond has received half-a-million dollars in campaign contributions from these companies, more than any other senator.

I plan to be there to protest the continuation of this illegal war that is taking so many American and Iraqi lives. There is no way we will stop terrorism by trying to kill all terrorists. We must start talking to our ememies and see what it is about U.S. policy that is creating terrorists around the world.

Senator Bond believes in the “Bush administration’s vision to bring democracy to Iraq” and has his son deployed in active military duty. He is a hawk in the truest sense.. and believes that our military might makes us right. (Mr. Bond’s votes have resulted in the death of 73 Missouri soldiers.) Mr. Bond also believes in torture (he was one of only 9 cavemen that voted against the McCain ammendment). He also believes that this president can break the law (FISA) in relation to illegal domestic spying and has pushed for immunity for the telcos that were party to these trangressions of our liberty and privacy. He also believes that a 700 year old law, habeus corpus, should not apply to all U.S. citizens. In addtion, he has voted for all the supplemental funding of the illegal war and occupation of Iraq. These monies have not been figured into our current economic crisis. We have to ask ourselves what kind of democracy is Mr. Bond’s son fighting for? We also need to ask who are the real terrorists, those who perpetrated the 9/11 attacks or those who supported the attack on Iraq who had nothing to do with 9/11? Mr. Bond and all of the misguided who support what America has done to the innocence of Iraq need to resign immediately and offer themselves to the world court to determine their innnocence as war criminals…

Wow. The post had a 500 word article about a cornflake shaped like Illinois that’s being sold on the internet but doesn’t have a word about 300 people spread across two blocks of Clayton condemning our business and political leaders’ roles in perpetuating the Iraq War.

I hope that PubDef gets some coverage of the event up. If not, I may well lose my faith humanity all together.

WAKE UP FOLKS!!!! People are dying and money is being sucked out of our pockets while we watch American Idol and bid for cornflakes on the internet. Is this really the world I live in?

Excuse me Ivan Martin, but the hijackers on 9/11 WERE terrorists.

I happen to be an Iraq vet, and I drove by this protest yesterday. I was rather disappointed, and if you want to find out why, you can read here:
