Rumor has is that homerun king Barry Bonds had a meeting this week with an unnamed official from the St. Louis Cardinals.
From Yahoo! Sports:
The Cardinals’ interest was difficult to define. Their general manager, Walt Jocketty, said Thursday morning he had not met with Bonds and added, “I don’t know where that’s coming from.”
Asked if the club had any interest in the tainted slugger, Jocketty said, “No.”
But, it appears that another Cardinals employee did, allowing Jocketty to maintain distance from the conversation and any possible fallout.
In related news… State Rep. Talibdin El-Amin will be introducing legislation next session to rename the stretch of Highway 70 running through north St. Louis City from “Mark McGwire Highway” to “John Bass Highway”, after the powerful former state senator.

This makes no sense. There is no DH rule in the National League, and they certainly wouldn’t play him at first and oust Albert.
His knees are shot, so no outfield for Barry, and besides, outside of the SF, baseball fans around the country pretty much despise Bonds.
I can’t imagine anyone in STL favoring a Bonds’ signing.
Come clean, Antonio. You messin’ with us?

Maybe Mark McGwire can tell him where to purchase steroids in St. Louis!

Seriously, all of this anti-McGuire and steroid talk is BS.
If steroid usage was not a norm in baseball, meaning if owners and managers didn’t allow them, then this would not be an issue.
Yet the more home runs the more fans come thus more $$$$$$$.
The owners could care less about ethics regarding baseball, they care about the bottom line and they always have.
Don’t condemn the players rather lets bring the owners before Congress. Yet that will never happen because the owners probably finance campaigns.

The real import of this post was about renaming the highway.
I haven’t lived in St. Louis long, and honestly don’t know who Bass is/was, but I’m all for getting McGwire’s name off that highway. It’s a disgrace, and is especially so considering a similar stretch of 70 in KC is named for a true class act, George Brett.
Folks just couldn’t get over how ‘cute’ is was that it was Highway 70 and Mark hit 70. Oh, what a coincidence! Nevermind he only played here for a few years and doesn’t even hold the record anymore.
